• Amy McBride was born in 1972 and wanted to be an actress when she began attending Arizona State University.
• In 1992, when the young, good-looking Amy was performing as a cheerleader with the Phoenix Suns for the NBA, she met a young golfer named Phil, and the direction of her life changed.
• Phil was also an ASU graduate and had won the PGA Tour Northern Telecom Open as an amateur the previous year.

• During the 1999 U.S. Open, Phil carried a pager with him the entire time because Amy was pregnant with their first child and ready to go into labor at any time.
• Amy did go into labor but decided not to page Phil, with him losing the tournament by one stroke yet still getting to Amy’s side for the birth of their daughter.
• Amy nearly succumbed during the birth of their third child, with Phil recalling sitting in the hospital fearing he would lose both his wife and son. Thankfully, they both pulled through, but it further reinforced their importance to him.

The Brave Amy :

• During the 2009-10 seasons, Amy was diagnosed with and began treatments for breast cancer. She stopped attending tournaments, except for the 2010 Masters.
• During the tournament, Phil asked Amy’s oncologist, Tom Buchholz, to come out of the gallery and caddie for just one hole. He birdied six in a row.
• When Phil walked off the course as the winner of the tournament, Amy and their three children were there to give him congratulations.
• In their 20-plus years of marriage, Amy has become a mentor to PGA Tour wives and girlfriends and helped keep Phil grounded during difficult times.

Family First :

• Phil Mickelson says that learning to deal with the stress of professional golf has helped him deal with the stress off the course as well.
• Having Amy get sick and the treatments showed him how much he loves golf; however, his family has continued to be first.

• Amy is very involved with breast cancer research fund-raising efforts, and the couple has established the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation in 2004.
