Kicking off the new year, the event was an opportunity to celebrate new records, successes from the last year and the accomplishments of faculty and staff.

"We are utilizing our programs to help both individuals and organizations thrive and prosper. We are making a difference in peoples' lives," said Tromp.

Tromp discussed the achievements of the colleges at Boise State while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. She also mentioned the schools successes in bringing classrooms online, reaching out across the world to its more than 55,000 students.

Tromp addressed skepticism with public and higher education, emphasizing that Boise State and other colleges in Idaho are in service to everyone involved.

The idea of establishing connectivity between the school and the student was heavily focused on by Tromp, who said Boise State is on track for a 20% increase in Idaho students.

"We are thinking in new ways on campus about how we can serve, how we can create a community and how we can connect with and support one another," Tromp added.

A new program was announced by Tromp called Idaho Listens. The goal is to encourage learning and listening with everyone in the community.

"Whatever challenges we face, we face them together and we will develop creative and meaningful solutions to solve the problems that are before us, and we will together do incredible things."

Classes resume on campus Monday, Aug. 22.
