Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers’ second-year quarterback, is having a fantastic season. He has led the Niners to an NFC-best 11-3 record and has firmly established himself in the MVP conversations this season. He’s done all that under a rookie contract of four years, $3.7 million. This year, the QB is scheduled to earn $870,000.
Quarterbacks in the NFL are known to gift their teammates presents. Other star players are also known to give presents to their teammates. The Niners’ RB Christian McCaffrey took the onus on himself to gift presents to his teammates. A new PXG golf bag, a coupon for a custom golf club fitting and a bottle of tequila were some of the items on the presents list.
Purdy was thankful to McCaffrey for handing out the gifts as he claims that he won’t be able to afford any gifts on his current contract. Purdy joked, according to The Athletic’s David Lombardi:
Financially I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now. Shoutout to him, everyone loved it. Thank you, Christian.
Purdy’s contract helped the Niners sign McCaffrey last year. That has helped them win 11 of their 14 games so far this season. They are one of the contenders to win the Super Bowl this season and will look to get a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Brock Purdy endorses Christian McCaffrey for MVP this season
The NFL’s MVP award has always been a quarterback award. However, this season, RB Christian McCaffrey has got himself in that conversation through some fantastic performances. Brock Purdy also believes that McCaffrey should win the MVP award this season.
Purdy said:
He does it all. He catches the ball, he makes guys miss, he can go up against safeties and linebackers and make them miss and stuff in the pass game. And then he scores touchdowns. His stats are crazy. So, he’s definitely a valued player and I think the most valued player.
Purdy himself is in the MVP conversation after returning with stats of 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. McCaffrey on the other hand has rushed for 1,292 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has also caught 57 catches for 509 yards and 7 touchdowns. McCaffrey is three touchdowns away from tying the franchise record for most touchdowns in the league.
