One Boise movie theater is open, but says business is slow

The Flicks Theatre located in the heart of downtown Boise is now reopen for business, with some modifications.

All staff and customers are required to wear a mask, and physical distancing is enforced in the box office lines, concession counter, theater entrances, and theater seating.

Carole Skinner, owner of The Flicks says they decided to open their door, even though major movie theaters aren’t opening, because they feature indie films and not new releases

“We didn’t need to wait for the new blockbuster movies like Mulan or Tenet the new Christopher Nolan movie, we already had films that we postponed that were scheduled to open," Skinner said. "We’re playing the new independent films that we were planning to play. We just thought there’s no reason to keep waiting and people really wanted to get out.

The Flicks staff says they have done a huge amount of work to get ready for reopening but not many people have shown up.

“So we have glass installed, we closed the dining area, people are just dining outside on our patio. There's plenty of room out there," Skinner said. "We’ve been promising that you can be six feet away, but at this point you can be 25 feet away. My husband and I went last Friday and had the whole 172 seat theater to ourselves”

The Flicks will also be doing extra cleaning and will only allow two people in the restroom at a time.

And, for those who don't feel comfortable stepping into a movie theater, The Flicks will have curbside pick up for food and movie rentals.
