HELENA, Mont. (KECI) — A plane assigned to fight the Horse Gulch Fire, near Helena, Mont., crashed at around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and crews are searching the Hauser Reservoir for the pilot.
Lewis and Clark County Undersheriff Brent Colbert said the plane is an Air Tractor AT-802, and only the pilot was on board when the plane crashed into the reservoir.
The Horse Gulch fire has burned 450 acres and has not at all been contained: zero percent.
Now, peoplein the Cave Gulch area have been ordered to evacuate.
Engines and helicopters had been at the scene helping with management actions, but fire behavior is active, and is in heavy dense and down fuels.
