WASHINGTON (TND) — Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently spoke up about some regrets he had after the Netflix show "The Greatest Roast of All Time."
The show, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart was live-streamed on Netflix on May 5 aspart of the "Netflix Is a Joke Fest," and featured jokes about his divorce fromBrazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, his two retirements and his FTX investment.
During an interview on "The Pivot Podcast," Brady acknowledged the jokes about his divorce did not go well with his family.
"I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun," he said. "I didn’t like the way that it affected my kids."
Brady and Gisele Bündchen finalized their divorce in 2022 ending the 13-year marriage.
The former couple had two children, Benjamin, 14 and Vivian, 11.Brady also has a 15-year-old son, Jack Moynahan, from a previous relationship with actor Bridget Moynahan.
A source told People thatBündchen was "deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family."
Brady said it was bittersweet when he realized the roast didn't turn out the way he thought it would.
"It was the bittersweet aspect of when you’re doing something you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way it affected actually the people I care about the most in the world," he said on the podcast.
"It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you’re naïve," he added while saying it is a good lesson and reminded him to be a better parent going forward.
At the end of the roast when Brady finally had a chance to defend himself he answered the question of why he agreed to do the event.
"It’s simple. I can take all the hits. I would have done this earlier but I’ve been too busy winning championships."
Brady, who officially retired in Feb. 2023, is often referred to as the greatest quarterback of all time. He initially announced his retirement in 2022 but changed his mind 40 days later and rejoined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brady won seven Super Bowls in his prolific 23-year career.
