Swords have always been the main weapon for Minecraft players, as they are just easy to use. In order to improve the damage and functions of swords, buffing them up with enchantments is a must. In this article, Gurugamer.com is going to showcase the best enchantments for swords in Minecraft 2022.
1. Sharpness
Sharpness is an enchantment applied to a sword that increases melee damage. It is the first enchantment that players should get on their weapons as soon as possible.
- In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 0.5 * level + 0.5 extra damage.
- In Bedrock Edition, each level of Sharpness adds 1.25 extra damage. This means the enchantment is much more lethal in Bedrock.
Players need to apply Sharpness V using an Anvil, however, they can find swords pre-enchanted with it in end city and bastion remnant chests. Golden weapons can get it via the enchanting table.
2. Fire Aspect
This is yet another enchantment that allows players to stack more damage to their swords. Fire Aspect adds 80 fire-ticks (4 seconds of burning) per level to the target. Targets receive 3 and 7 damage with levels I and II respectively.
Fire Aspect doesn't work on mobs that are immune to fire such as Zombie Piglin, Ghast, or Wither Skeleton. It also works similar to normal fire - targets who are under the effect of water or rain would be unaffected by the fire.
3. Looting
Looting is an enchantment for swords that can cause mobs to drop more items and increase the chances of rare drops. The additional drops do not affect experience. The maximum level for the Looting enchantment is Level 3.
Having Looting on your sword is vital if you plan on creating a manual farm. A sword with looting 3 would increase the number of drops dramatically and reduce the farming time greatly. Its extra ability to increase the percentage for a rare drop is also pretty valuable.
4. Mending
Mending is a special enchantment that restores the durability of your gear when you pick up experience orbs. It counts as a treasure enchantment; it can be obtained from chest loot, fishing, or trading with a Librarian of any level.
By enchanting their sword with mending, players should be able to skip the annoying repairing part and just use the item as much as they want. This is very valuable for higher tier weapons like Netherite.
5. Sweeping Edge [JE only]
If the attack recharge meter is 84.8% or above, and the player is standing or moving no faster than walking speed, the sword performs a "sweeping" attack that hits nearby enemies for 1 damage and knocks them back. It is useful for farming purposes, as you can kill multiple mobs with one it and minimize the swords' durability lost.
Sweeping Edge increases the damage dealt to mobs by each hit from a sweep attack to 50%/67%/75% of the sword's attack damage for levels I/II/III.
